Population census refers to the system of acquiring, recording, and calculating population information about the members of a given population. Uganda in particular, started its census nearly a hundred years ago with the 1911 population census.
As of now, Ugandans are in the preparations of carrying out the activity which will take place on 10th May 2024. The process is going to take place for ten days while counting people and also accomplishing each and everything that is required.
These are the roles of a population census and why each country needs it. More so, religion is also playing a vital role in making sure this population census takes place smoothly by encouraging believers to involve themselves in this activity.
While speaking about the population census 2024 of Uganda that we are heading into, one of the religious leaders Prince Khasim Nakibinge requested the Muslim fraternity to embrace this census activity.
“Servants of Allah may you embrace population census.” He said. It should be noted that, through carrying out a census helps the government in making clear policies, on-time planning, and proper administration of the country.
Furthermore, Population Census in the country helps in monitoring of government initiatives and also forward-looking upon the socio-economic planning, statistical analysis and advice. That is why it matters to be counted because it gives out the principal source of records for use as a sampling frame for the household during years between censuses.
More to note, the activity provides information and data on the changing patterns of rural and urban movements hence keeping clear records. Furthermore, a census is generally conducted every ten years and has primary objectives.
