City lawyer Mahad Gumirason passed away from his wounds after being attacked in Mityana district about two weeks ago by goons brandishing machetes.
The lawyer was taken to Rubaga Hospital following the incident, where he underwent brain surgery. The medical personnel were still tending to him on Thursday, May 300, 2024, at the time of his death. Mahad Gumirason had previously represented the youth as a district councilor for Mityana.
Racheal Kawala, the spokesperson for the Wamala Police area, stated on Friday that the case was under investigation.
“He was attacked by unknown persons in Mityana and was severely injured and to Kampala for treatment. It unfortunate that he has passed on but we are determined to find the perpetrators of the crime so that they can face justice,” she said.
According to preliminary accounts, the lawyer was attacked by criminals who wanted to rob him, Kawala pointed out. Family sources, however, claim that nothing was taken by the attackers, suggesting that this was probably a targeted attack.
His attack follows an upsurge in robbery targeting pedestrians. In the most recent terrifying incident, police announced that they had detained two suspects in connection with the camera-captured attack and robbery of a pedestrian in downtown Kampala on Wednesday, May 22.
The unsettling episode, which was caught on tape by CCTV and extensively circulated on social media, concerned an attacker who attacked a man named Tomson Mugisha, a resident of Kyebando, on Ben Kiwanuka Street at approximately 8:00 p.m.
