Kyenjojo accident following a collision between a bus and a taxi in Kyenjojo District, ten individuals have been officially declared deceased. On Wednesday morning, a gruesome accident happened near Kaihura on the Fort Portal-Kampala Road.
The Spokesman for the Rwenzori West Region Police, Vincent Twesige, revealed that a Toyota Hiace taxi, registered UBR 812G, and a Pokopoko bus, registered UBE 807T, were involved in this unfortunate fatal crash.
The taxi, which was traveling from Fort Portal to Kampala, collided with the Pokopoko bus, which was coming from Kampala. According to the police, among the dead is the commuter taxi driver, whose name was not immediately confirmed. The other adults who died in the crash were Fred Rwobucence, James Tumwine, Bamuhiga Pio, Najera Kamureba, James Byarugaba, and one woman named Noreda.
The others are Moses Mashijja, Deus Machati, and one Rugirira. Fatima Tumwijukye, Benjamin Natuhwera, and Medard Nsinikweri are the injured parties. According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the cab driver lost control and swerved into the bus’s lane, causing a head on accident.
Nine people, eight men and two women as well as the cab driver perished in this gruesome Kyenjojo accident. Following an inspection by district and regional traffic officers, the bodies were taken to Kyenjojo Hospital for postmortem tests.
Additionally, the police are still investigating the vehicles’ wreckage, which has been hauled to Kyenjojo Central Police Station (reference number TAR 117/2024). Twesige underlined the need of using caution when driving and confirmed that the taxi driver’s carelessness was the cause of the catastrophe. The bus driver ran away from the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.

This unfortunate event serves as a warning of the risks associated with driving, particularly on Uganda’s congested roadways. For the sake of everyone’s safety on the road, security officials are still warning drivers to drive carefully and to completely abide by traffic laws.
