Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, has revealed shocking details of two alleged assassination attempts against her. Speaking at an event for the elderly in Kamuli District, Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli District Woman MP, suggested that an unnamed individual working with the government was behind the plots.
The first attempt, Kadaga claimed, involved a plan to use sugarcane trucks to cause a fatal collision with her convoy on the Jinja-Kamuli highway. This, she explained was intended to disguise the assassination as a road accident.
The second plot, she alleged, involved hiring individuals posing as money changers to create a disturbance in Buwagi Trading Center, also along the Jinja-Kamuli highway, providing cover for an attack.
According to Kadaga, the conspirators had offered a down payment of Shs15 million to carry out the attacks. However, both attempts were foiled when the hired individuals backed out, refusing to participate in the plot against her.
Kadaga’s revelations came in response to concerns raised by Buzaya Constituency MP, Martin Muzaale, who alleged that his opponents were hiring gangs to intimidate and attack his supporters. The premier expressed her concern over the escalating political violence, questioning the motives behind such acts.
While Rebecca Kadaga called for peace, she did not disclose whether she had reported the alleged assassination attempts to the police or increased her security. Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, stated that police could only investigate if Kadaga filed a formal complaint.

However, police are currently investigating Muzaale’s claims and the alleged attacks on his supporters. Stephen Muzusa, a political analyst, warned that such violence could undermine democracy and discourage voters from participating in the electoral process.
