KAMPALA: The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja has proposed the arrest of people stuck in poverty. The leader of the government business during a ceremony said that the government is going to start arresting these people who have failed to emancipate themselves from poverty.
This is despite the numerous wealth-creation government projects that are in place. According to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the government has done a lot of projects but the Wanainchi have failed to become prosperous. Therefore, the only solution now is to make them rich by force if they don’t to do it themselves peacefully. She then proposed that the government will just land on a poor person and take them to the Police and explain why some of their relatives are rich and they aren’t.
The government has done so many things, but our common people, have not got rich. If they don’t want to get rich in peace, we shall make you rich by force. We shall take you to the police and make a statement on why your brother is rich as you remain poor.”
This has aroused different opinions amongst several Ugandans especially those on social media. Majority didn’t seem to welcome the proposal and saw it’s overstepping from the central government.
Meanwhile, several projects over many years have been introduced by the government to help people become rich. These include among others , Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Boona Bagagawale, NAADS, Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga among others.

Although there has been some success from the beneficiaries, these programs have been a failure to a larger extent. And this can be attributed to many factors. These include corruption amongst officials meant to oversee the processes, failure of people to utilize the funds for the proposed projects among others.
