KAMPALA: This website has learned that an SFC soldier Pte Herbertson Birivumbika under UPDF assigned to Special Forces Command (SFC) is scheduled to be arraigned before the division court martial for SFC. This soldier is purportedly accused of shooting four family members dead and injuring others.
SFC spokesperson Maj Jimmy Omara said that there has been progress in the matter and that Pte Herbertson Birivumbika will be charged in front of the SFC court after thorough investigations are finished.
“Once an independent investigation has been conducted, the SFC soldier suspect is to appear before the Division Court Martial of Special Force Command,” Maj Omara said.
In a horrific act on Saturday, Pte Birivumbika entered Mayuge District in eastern Uganda, where 42-year-old Isaac Isabirye Mudhasi was found slaughtering chicken for a guest, and then started shooting at the family.
Mirabu Namukose, who had visited, reported that Mudhasi’s wife and four other family members suffered significant injuries, but he and his two daughters Elesi Kafuko, 15, Resty Kantono, 13, and son Nicholus Mudhasi, 6, were slain on the scene.
There are claims that the attack is connected to an ongoing, long-running land dispute. Pte Herbertson Birivumbika, a member of the Special Forces Command, is said to have shot four family members dead and five others wounded in Mayuge after escaping from his duty station and making his way to Namale Village, Kabayingire Parish, Buwaya Sub-county, according to a statement released by SFC on Monday.
Once he returned, he was arrested because all fingers pointed to him. He is detained in our facility awaiting the long arm of the law to dispense justice.”
Maj Jimy Omara, a spokesman for the SFC told the media on Wednesday that the agency is moving quickly with its investigations to guarantee that the suspect is charged and that justice is done.
“This is a very sad and regrettable incident; we would like to condole with the affected families. As a Command, we would also like to ask the people of Namale to cooperate with the investigators so that the suspect is quickly brought forward to face the law,” Maj Omara said.
