Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Investment, seems to have run her course and got from President Museveni’s favor after abruptly abandoning the Cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi and traveling to Canada. Sources have it that, she could have been dropped by President Museveni from her ministerial position according to close sources.
To add salt to an injury, she edited her brief bio on X, formerly Twitter, from one that had earlier praised President Museveni and described her as a minister for investment to a flat “This is the official account of AnitE”. This too has intensified speculation and continued to confirm how her role in Museveni’s government may have come to an end.
It should be known that, Ms. Evelyn Anite had a difficult period in Kyankwanzi as her anti-corruption effort backfired on her according to sources. Before they closed her down with a trail of her own dirty laundry, including charges of accepting bribes from investors, the loud-mouthed minister first turned to the pulpit to denounce her colleagues for of massive corruption.
Later, she appeared obviously distressed for the remainder of the day, and the few coworkers she spoke with throughout the retreat said she continued telling them she didn’t care what happened. To make matters worse, some Japanese investors accused Anite of asking enormous sums of money from them before she could present them to the President, during one of the investor meetings in Kyankwanzi.
Later, Evelyn Anite would pack her things and head out of the retreat, removing the ministerial titles from her Twitter bio. Recently, Minister Anite broke down in tears during a heated meeting at State House last month when President Museveni pressed for explanations after her altercation with representatives of the Uganda Investment Authority, whose director-general, Robert Mukiza.
After leaving the State House meeting, Ms. Evelyn Anite vowed to combat corruption and accused those she considered corrupt of lying to the President about her and that was Robert Mukiza. The minister, who is betrothed to Allan Kajik, Uganda’s deputy envoy to Canada, seems to be waiting for President Museveni to decide her future.
