Uganda’s youth population dubbed Gen Z has vowed to continue their March to Parliament protests against corruption. It should be noted that protests were organized on the 23rd of July. These however were unsuccessful as only a handful of these youths marched onto the streets.
Even those who did were met by stiff resistance from the different security agencies who had been deployed in different spots of Kampala two days earlier. According to these youths, they are going to give it another shot and won’t just back down.
Information shows that another March to Parliament protest is planned to take place on the 25th of July which will be on Thursday. They vowed not to stop until their protests yielded something positive. Some of the demands these youths made include the Speaker Anita Among.
They have dubbed her the mother of corruption in the current Parliament. They also want the number of MPs resized among other demands. These youths have now taken to social media to call out several personalities of influence who have failed to support them.
They have launched attacks against musicians and sportsmen saying that these are selfish. They however vowed to wait for them when they need their support too. Some of the musicians who came out to express support to these protests include the likes of Allan Toniks, Azawi, A Pass, and Ykee Benda among a few others.
Reacting to these protesters being blocked from accessing Parliament, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Thomas Tayebwa said that he wasn’t notified by these youths. He also got the information from social media. Therefore, there is no way he could have assisted them.
